Dark Matter celebrates Australia’s pivotal role in the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing by capturing a snapshot of the Southern Hemisphere stars as viewed from Parke’s observatory in rural NSW on 21st July 1969 at exactly 12.56pm AEST. At that exact moment the 64m-diameter dish at Parkes was responsible for broadcasting to the world the immortal footage of Man’s first steps on the moon.
Dark Matter is crafted from charred Blackbutt with inlaid brass ‘stars’. Charring timber is a traditional Japanese technique known as Shou Sugi Ban which creates an extremely hard-wearing finish and adds contrast to the subtle glisten of the brass inlay.
This piece is designed as a boardroom or dining table and is fully customisable to any dimensions.
* As with all Sawdust Bureau pieces, this design is made to order, therefore every aspect is fully customisable. Feel free to contact us to discuss your exact specification. *
